摘要

Antigen processing and presentation play a critical role in immune surveillance. Peptides derived from self, viral, or tumor-associated antigens are generated in the cytoplasm by the proteasome. Transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP], a member of the ATP-binding cassette [ABC) transporter family, functions by transporting these peptides from the cytoplasm to the lumen of the endo-plasmic reticulum CER), where each peptide forms a ternary complex with beta-2 microglobulin (E2m] and major histocompatibility complex CMHC) class I heavy chain. These complexes are then transported to the cell surface and recognized by cytotoxicT lymphocytes CCTLs), which eventually kill cells that present non-self antigens.
