Natco licensed to undercut Bayer drug price

INDIA has granted a licence to Natco Pharma to produce and sell a generic version of Bayer's patented cancer drug Nexavar for 97% cheaper than normal. The controller general of patents, designs and trademarks issued the licence to Natco under a compulsory licensing agreement recognised by the World Trade Organisation, allowing a state to grant a licence on a patented product without its owner's agreement.
