Generation mean analysis for yield and yield traits in Indian mustard

The present investigation was carried out to study the four crosses of Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L) Czern & Coss]. Six generations comprising P_1 P_2, F_1 F_2, BC_1 and BC_2 for each of the four crosses were sown in compact family block design.The estimates of gene effects revealed that significant role of additive, dominance and epistasis gene effects for days to flowering and number of branches per plant in crosses I and III, days to maturity in cross I, Plant height in crosses cross I andII, siliquae per plant in crosses III and IV, 1000-seed weight in cross III, seed yield per plant in crosses I, II and III and oil content in all the four crosses. Duplicate type of epistasis was observed for days to flowering (cross GM 1 x NUDH Y3), days to maturity (cross GM 3 x NUDH YJ 3), number of siliquae per plant (cross GM 3 x EC 287711). Significant heterosis in desired direction were observed for number of siliquae per plant, harvest index and oil content, while significant positive directionof heterobeltiosis were observed for harvest index and oil content. High positive inbreeding deperation were observed for days to 50 per cent flowering, 1000-seed weight, harvest index, number of siliquae per plant and seed yield per plant.
