In Venezuela, the latest data showed that despite the imported pellets, which guaranteed the production ofDRI/HBI, the country did not manage to fully return back to the export market (see chart). This wasbecause international prices had fallen, making Venezuelan material too expensive. After Sicad II (theexchange rate for the industrial sector) was allowed to float, the value of the bolivar against US dollarplummeted and is now over 100 bolivars per dollar. This allowed Venezuelan producers to accept lowerprices, with offers currently in a range of $180-200/t FOB. Meanwhile, Ferrominera finally started sendingpellets to Comsigua (25 kt) and plans to supply Venprecar and Briqven soon.
