Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are the cornerstone for evidence-based medicine and are considered the gold standard in assessing new interventions. Robust multicenter RCTs are, however, expensive to run and require extensive collaboration from academics and clinicians in the field; an advantage that we currently have within the Scottish Pelvic Floor Network that I am proud to have founded in 2008.
