Although retroperitoneal fibrosis (RF) was first described by the French urologist Albarran in 1905,1 it is the American Urologist John Kelso Orraond (1886-1978) who is credited with the first detailed description of the disease in the English literature in 1948.2 He described 2 patients with diffuse fibrosis of the retroperitoneal tissues. His description of the clinical and pathological features of idiopathic retrqperitoneal fibrosis established the condition as a clinical entity.
