Biomass tested at PGE’s Boardman plant

Portland General Electric is conducting a one-day test burn ofbiomass at its 600-megawatt coal-fired Boardman power plantthis month, as the utility considers options to replace PowderRiver Basin coal.The utility, which owns 90% of the Boardman plant, has ruledout converting the station to natural gas or installing carboncapturetechnology. Traditional coal-fired power generationmust be phased out in Oregon by 2020. However, PGE has saidBoardman has at least 20 years of productive life left.
