APS' Cholla will stop taking EI Segundo coal in '16, mid-'20s

The Cholla Power Plant, a major customer of Peabody Energy's El Segundo coal from New Mexico, will stop taking that coal by the mid-2020s under a proposal that will shut out coal at three of the Arizona plant's four units, Arizona Public Service announced Wednesday what it termed "a compromise proposal" with the EPA that will see Cholla, in Joseph City, Ariz., close its 260-megawatt Unit 2 by April 2016 and stop burning coal at the other APS-owned units, 1 and 3, by the mid-2020s. The proposal is subject to approval by EPA and the Arizona Corporation Commission.
