STABILITY ANALYSIS OVER DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS FOR DIFFERENT TRAITS IN FODDER MAIZE

Twenty populations of fodder maize were evaluated in four environments, two locations, Ludhiana and Gurdaspur, as well as two dates of sowing i. e. 8.7.2009 and 8.8.2009 for four traits, namely, green fodder yield, leaf-stem ratio, plant height and days to pollen shed. Mean squares due to genotypes, environments (linear) and pooled deviations were highly significant (P< 0.01) for all the traits showing thereby that genetic diversity existed among populations as well among environments. Mean squares due to genotypes x environments were significant (P< 0.05) for green fodder yield and highly significant (P< 0.01) for days to pollen-shed showing the differential response of varieties under different environments only for these two traits. Populations number 1589,1615 and 1630 were found stable for green fodder yield, 1584 and 1594 for leaf-stem ratio, 1577 and 1584 for plant height, and 1610 for days to pollen shed.
