Global market for medical polymers estimated at US$2.9 bln by 2021

THE global revenue for medical polymers is estimated to be US$2.9 bln by 2021, as per N-tech Research. The study said that polymers have been used increasingly in the implant market because they are cheaper and lighter than metal alternatives, such as titanium. Implants are set to account for around US$1.7 bln in polymer sales by 2021. Similar trends are driving the markets for polymers used in diagnostic systems will reach more than US$1 bln in 2021. The biggest contributor to revenues is predicted to be PMMA, which will generate US$745 mln in 2021.
