Indian power utilities 11-month coal imports up 15% on-year

India’s 38 power utilities imported 83.3 million mt of steam coal in the 11 months to February, up 15% year on year, according to Central Electricity Authority data seen by Platts Monday. The 30 utilities that blend imported coal with domestic coal took 44.5 million mt, while 38.7 million mt was imported by eight utilities that run entirely on imported coal, the CEA data showed.
