BMA increases Hay Point coal terminal’s Australian shipment capacity

BHP Billiton-Mitsubishi Alliance has inaugurated an 11 millionmt/year expansion to its exclusive-use coal terminal at Hay Point in theAustralian state of Queensland, extending its shipment capacity to 55million mt/year, said BHP Billiton in a company statement Wednesday.The $3 billion expansion project has added a new shiploader forloading coal export cargoes into ships at the group’s Hay Pointterminal, and a new 1.9-km long jetty on a taller trestle structure builtto withstand sea swells and wind gusts from the strongest tropicalcyclones that hit the region between the months of October to March.
