PBF gets USGC toehold with purchase of Chalmette refinery

PBF Energy will buy the 189,000 b/dChalmette, Louisiana, refinery from ExxonMobil and PDVChalmette for $322 million, giving PBF its first US Gulf Coastrefining asset as well as entry into the USGC refined productexport market, the company said Thursday.The refinery’s delayed coking unit has the capacity toproduce 30,000 barells per stream day, according to data fromthe US Energy Information Administration.The Chalmetterefinery produces roughly 450,000-500,000 mt of 4.5% sulfurpetcoke annually, a US petcoke trader said Wednesday.
