South African thermal coal in demand in India but supply tight

The Indian market saw some inquiries for South African thermal coal from the cement sector, but tight availability and fears of further price falls kept trading activity limited, sources said Thursday. An India-based trader said February and March Panamax cargoes of South African 5,500 kcal/kg NAR coal were being offered at $61-62/mt CFR east coast India, adding that there was not much difference in the landed price between west and east coasts currently because of the freight rates.
