Ukraine coal mine blast kills seven, injures one

Seven coal miners were killed and one injuredwhen a methane gas explosion ripped through a coal minein the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine early Friday,government officials said.The explosion occurred at around 6:24 am local time(0324 GMT) about 1,300 meters (4,265 feet) down theSkochynskoho coal mine, the country’s emergency ministrysaid. There were 52 miners in the shaft at the time, but only45 could be rescued, the ministry said.
