Australian-listed thermal coal producer New HopeCorp. has agreed to acquire Cockatoo Coal’s 51% interest inits North Surat joint venture in Queensland’s Surat coal fieldfor A$25 million ($21.6 million), Cockatoo Coal said in astatement to the Australian Securities Exchange Friday.The deal is subject to Cockatoo Coal’s 49% partner in theNorth Surat joint venture – Japanese trading company Mitsui– not exercising its pre-emptive rights to purchase the 51% stake in the project belonging to Cockatoo Coal.
