Asia-Pacific coking coal market softens as Chinese buyers remain apprehensive

Singapore—Asian seaborne metallurgical coal prices eased marginally Wednesday as seasonal weakness in steel demand and growing seaborne supply continue to erode sentiment. Platts assessed premium low-vol hard coking coal steady at $144/mt CFR China, while second-tier mid-vols lost 50 cents to $131.50/mt CFR. In the premium segment, demand from the largest seaborne spot importer China remained lethargic as steel mills appear to be in no rush to snap up cargoes amid a weakening market.
