Singapore—Rizhao Port Co., operator of China’s top port for imported iron ore in Rizhao, eastern Shandong province, will build six iron ore and coal terminals to unload lighter vessels, a company official confirmed Monday. Designed for a combined throughput of 8.8 million mt/ year, the six terminals will include two for 50,000 deadweight ton vessels, two for 20,000 dwt, one for 10,000 dwt and one for 3,000 dwt, Rizhao Port revealed in a notice on Saturday. Capesize dry bulk iron ore and coal vessels, after being partially unloaded at the deep-water terminals for 200,000 or 300,000 dwt vessels, can be diverted to these shallower terminals to remove the rest of the cargo thus shortening waiting and unloading times, the company official said.
