London—The European-delivered CIF ARA physical thermal coal market extended gains for the second consecutive day as 400,000 mt worth of coal exchanged hands in a welltraded session Thursday. Sources chalked the price increase to the market bouncing back after reaching a price floor, as well as players covering positions. Platts assessed the price of CIF ARA thermal coal basis 6,000 kcal/kg NAR and for delivery within the next 15-60 days at $79.10/mt, up 50 cents on-day.
