Manila - Japan's scheduled October 1 increase on coal imports will not have an impact on the country's total ton- nage to be imported, an industry source said Thursday. Japan is not expected to cut its estaimted annual imports of about 175 million mt of both thermal and metallurgical coal. "Japan has no choice but to import coal," the industry source said. Effective October 1, Japan's taxes on crude, oil products, LPG, LNG and coal imported or produced domestically were raised.
