Miners strike at Bulgaria's Maritsa east coal mines after pay row

Miners at open-cut lignite (brown coal) mines in the Maritsa East region of Bulgaria have gone on strike over demands for higher salaries and bonuses, union leaders said Monday. The industrial action began late Sunday when around 1,500 night shift workers walked out in protest at what they see as management's failure to reward them for increased production.
