Singapore — Improved coking coal contract uptake from some Asian steelmakers has tightened the spot market enough to counteract generally weak demand in China and India, sources agreed Wednesday. Transactional data pointed to stable prices for both premium and non-premium HCC. Platts assessed premium low-vol HCC with 71% coke strength after reaction (CSR), 21.5% VM, 9.3% ash and 500 ddpm maximum fluidity at $223/mt FOB Queensland, and mid-vol HCC with 64% CSR at $190/mt FOB.
