European acrylonitrile butadiene styrene contract prices were assessed down Eur15 from December at Eur1,485/mt ($1,597/mt) FD NWE Wednesday. Following the settlement of feedstock butadiene and styrene at Eur35 and Eur20 from December respectively, producers were seen offering the product at prices Eur10 lower than December, while converters were seen demanding a Eur20-25 drop. Pressure on ABS prices was also exerted by bearish acrylonitrile, the third feedstock. Several prominent traders and converters were away from the market this week on holidays and this ensured relatively low demand for ABS. The product’s price in Asia, from where Europe sporadically imports spot cargoes, was assessed at $1,160/mt CFR China, up $20 week on week, and this lent some support to prices in Europe.
