US West Coast polyethylene terephthalate remained on a downward trend to start the year, assessed 1 cent/lb lower since December 16 at $1,047-$1,069/mt (47.50-48.50 cents/lb) DDP US West Coast on weaker feedstocks. Platts did not assess weekly Americas petrochemical markets over the final two weeks of the year in observance of the endof-year holidays. The market will likely remain in a downward trend with expectations of continued weakness in feedstocks and softness in the wider energy complex, sources said. With falling crude prices -settled below $34/b Wednesday -and downward movement in feedstocks monoethylene glycol and purified terephthalic acid expected in the first quarter, sentiment remained bearish in the market, sources said. The market will be difficult for the next few months with falling prices and the increased challenge of importing material due to the antidumping duties implemented in October, a trader source said.
