The contract price of polyvinyl chloride slipped Eur10/mt Wednesday to Eur847.50/mt ($912/mt) FD NWE, pressured by the Eur27.50/mt FD NWE fall in the January contract price of feedstock ethylene and colder weather in parts of Europe. Colder weather dampens construction activity, the main outlet for PVC. Producers were heard targeting a decrease of Eur5-10/mt, while converters were heard targeting a decrease of Eur15/mt. Price changes were heard pegged between a rollover and a decrease of Eur15/mt. By contrast, trade sources said the spot market is seeing a pick-up in activity as companies seek to restock after clearing inventories in December. Many market players were still on holiday so the pick-up was muted.
