US spot styrene slipped 0.10 cent on the week, assessed Friday at 41.90 cents/lb FOB USG, as limited spot supply kept US styrene prices from tracking European styrene prices lower. Spot supply was tight for both February and March, sources said. At least 50,000-60,000 mt of styrene was loaded out of the US to Asia in January and February, and at least another 20,000-30,000 mt of styrene was loaded during the same time period for shipping to Europe, sources said. An arbitrage to Asia was open on paper Friday, while the arbitrage to Europe, which had been open on paper for most of the last three weeks, was closed, according to Platts data.
