The January NWE ethylene contract fully settled on December 23 at Eur900/mt FD NWE, a fall of Eur27.5/mt month on month. The initial agreement was between seller BP Refining and Petrochemicals and buyers Clariant and Vinnolit. It was followed by seller OMV with the same buyers. Both buyers and seller OMV confirmed. BPRP did not confirm. The CP is at a low not seen since February. European HDPE spot prices were flat for injection, film, and blowmolding, closing at Eur1,430/mt, Eur1,430/mt, and Eur1,420/mt respectively. There was not much demand and no particular issues sourcing material, sources said. In the contract market, prices were assessed down Eur27.50/mt following the drop in the ethylene contract price, closing at Eur1,467.50/mt. One producer said he would be targeting the monomer fall. He added that the supply demand balance had improved, and that solid demand was expected for January.
