Northwest European monoethylene glycol prices were assessed unchanged Friday at Eur1,040/mt FCA, caught between short supply and falling downstream costs. “Material is pretty tight due to force majeures and MEG production restrictions,” a trade source said. Lower downstream polyethylene terephthalate costs and lower than expected offtake of MEG have however prompted price pegs for MEG below last week’s level, the source said. Bids and offers were heard pegged in the same wide range, Eur1,020-1,050/mt. European petrochemicals producer BASF expects to lift the force majeure on production of feedstock ethylene oxide and MEG at its Ludwigshafen and Antwerp plants in mid-June, a company source told Platts Friday.
