Asian high density polyethylene film prices in China were stable Wednesday. There was little discussion in the spot market with participants more focused on this year’s product allocations. Producers were relying less on traders, and more on direct negotiations with endusers, said sources. Traders said it was hard to do business now as most of the major buyers were negotiating directly with producers. On the other hand, the smaller end-users were running their plants at low rates amid credit squeeze, and hence not buying much, they added. In plant news, Thailand’s IRPC plans to shut its 300,000 mt/year polyethylene unit in line with its steam cracker turnaround at Map Ta Phut in November 2016 for an annual maintenance, a source close to the company said. The unit will be shut for around one month.
