US linear low-density export prices were mostly firmer to open the year as availability continued to be talked limited for butene, leading to a lack of offers and activity, sources said. LLDPE butene export pricing was assessed at $1,124-$1,146/mt (51-52 cents/lb) FAS Houston, up $22/mt from December 16, based on pricing from US producers to traders. LLDPE hexene prices were assessed at $1,168-$1,190/mt (53-54 cents/lb) FAS Houston, also up $22/mt from December 16, as rail car prices were talked about 2 cents/lb higher than butene. Metallocene prices were down $12/mt from December 16, assessed at $1,168-$1,190/mt (53-54 cents/lb) FAS Houston, with pricing indications for bulk rail cars continuing to be heard in the 50-51 cents/lb range. Prices edged higher based on tighter inventories and expectations for stronger domestic sales in Q1, which have limited the need for US producers to send resin to the export market.
