India’s OPAL to start new polyethylene plants by 2016

Singapore — India’s ONGC Petro-additions Ltd. will begin commercial operations of its new polyethylene plants at the Dahej Special Economic Zone in Gujarat by next year, a source close to the company said Wednesday. The polyethylene plants take feedstock gas and naphtha, which is produced by a dual feed cracker unit that is able to crack both gas-feedstocks and naphtha. OPAL is building two 360,000 mt/year high density polyethylene/ linear low density polyethylene swing units, and standalone HDPE and polypropylene units each with 340,000 mt/year capacity, downstream of the cracker. The DFCU has a nameplate capacity of 1.1 million mt/year of ethylene and 400,000 mt/year of propylene.
