Asian acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene was assessed up $10/ mt week on week at $1,600/mt CFR China and $1,600/mt CFR Southeast Asia Wednesday, amid firmer upstream butadiene price. ABS comprises around 60% of styrene monomer, 25% of acrylonitrile and 15% of butadiene. The CFR China butadiene marker surged $110/mt week on week to $1,380/mt CFR China Wednesday. Meanwhile, the SM markers were flat day on day and down $19.50/mt week on week at $1,330/mt FOB Korea and $1,354/mt CFR China Wednesday. Although SM was down week on week, an uptrend in SM seen earlier in the month had boosted sentiment for ABS, in tandem with rising butadiene prices this week, a market source based in Hong Kong said.
