Latin American spot import prices were stable in Peru and lower in Brazil Wednesday. Import assessments for low-density polyethylene remained flat in Peru week on week, assessed at $1,525-$1,535/mt CFR basis, despite tightening global supply. US-origin material was heard scarce for the period despite being the most competitively priced, sources said. US-origin material was talked as low as $1,500/mt levels for export, however supply was heard tight in North America. “LDPE was the fastest PE to increase in December and the market has been tight for a long time,” a source with a regional producer said. Meanwhile, deep-sea cargo from Asia continued to be scarce, according to sources, with some indicating no offers for the period for deep-sea cargo.
