Asian EDC prices rose $15/mt week on week as feedstock ethylene prices remained expensive for producers. The CFR Far East Asia marker was assessed at $370/mt Thursday and the CFR Southeast Asia marker at $380/mt, both up $15/mt from last Thursday. At current ethylene prices of $1,350/mt CFR Northeast Asia assessed Thursday, the base cost for EDC should be $391.50/mt, Platts calculations showed. Discussions for July-arrival EDC have not started as participants held back ahead of fresh monthly offers for downstream PVC set to start next week. However, with lesser EDC availability from the US Gulf and lack of Middle Eastern cargoes amid turnarounds, prices were likely to remain stable, said a producer. In addition, expensive ethylene is also expected to support offers ahead, added another source.
