US spot refinery-grade propylene climbed 0.5 cent for the week to a Friday assessment at 31.75-32.25 cents/lb delivered. Polymer-grade and chemical-grade propylene were also up 0.5 cent for the period at 40.25-40.75 cents/lb delivered and 37.25-37.75 cents/lb delivered, respectively. RGP assessments moved up from the lowest levels since May of 2009, on continued talks of unplanned refinery outages in the US Gulf Coast. In contracts, US propylene contract prices for May were yet to settle 1 cent lower, sources said, as negotiations were still on-going. Polymergrade propylene is expected to settle at 42 cents/lb and chemical-grade propylene at 40.5 cents/lb, sources said Friday. The drop was at the same level as the initial nomination for a 1-cent/lb decrease heard in late April. In inventories, stocks of propylene for non-fuel use marked a 21,000 barrel increase to 4.975 million barrels for the week ending on May 8, US EIA report showed Wednesday.
