The ethylene dichloride FOB Northwest European spot price increased by $6/mt week-on-week to $350/mt — up $18/mt on the month. The price increase follows higher feedstock ethylene costs and higher downstream polyvinyl chloride prices. Prices were heard in a wide range, from below $330/mt to around $350/mt. Platts assessed at the higher end of this range, at $350/mt, to reflect the Eur80/mt increase in the contract price of upstream ethylene. “Prices have risen, so if you are a buyer you are desperate to not let prices go any further, but of course sellers can see prices rising so blood is being sensed,” one trade source said. This means discussions are getting harder than a few months ago, the source added. The new EDC price is being supported by a Eur80/mt rise in the contract price of ethylene.
