European polystyrene spot prices were down by Eur5/mt on the week to Eur1,520/mt FD NWE, amid relief from a supply crunch. PS prices touched a record high in early April at Eur1,650/mt FD NWE and have been falling continuously since end-April as supplies have eased. “Prices are starting to weaken, there is plenty of material around. We are keeping stocks at a minimum, doing backto-back deals,” one distributor said. Sources said that sentiment in PS market in Europe was not as bearish as Asia. Asian product continued to be offered to Europe. One source said that the quantities were “not significant.” The prices being offered from Asia could be achieved in Europe by July-August, he added. CFR China GPPS was flat on week at $1,410/mt Wednesday.
