European polypropylene contract prices were assessed at Eur1,567.50/mt Wednesday, flat on the week, still reflecting a Eur40/mt increase in June. The rise in PP contract prices equalling the feedstock cost rise for the month with propylene up Eur40/mt at Eur1,030/mt FD NWE. “We have easily achieved a plus Eur40/mt on polypropylene...there is still some tightness,” a producer source said. Tightened supply in the market continues as Ineos’ 500,000 mt/year polypropylene plant in Geel, Belgium, is undergoing unplanned maintenance, a source at the company had said last week that market sources said continued this week. The unplanned outage follows a declaration of force majeure by the company on olefins and derivatives production out of its 740,000 mt/year ethylene facility in Lavera, France. Ineos has a PP capacity of 300,000 mt/year at Lavera.
