European propylene prices surged this week on Shell Chemical’s force majeure at its cracker in Moerdijk in the Netherlands. Prices were assessed at Eur637/mt FD NWE, compared to Eur503/mt last week. The spot price rose Eur108/mt on Friday alone. Several market sources said the cracker is expected to be down until the beginning of December. Two ethylene buyers and a propylene source confirmed on Friday that Shell declared the force majeure on ethylene and propylene supplies.
