Trade activity continued into the Mexican port of Altamira this week with 2 separate cargos of butadiene totaling approximately 5,000-mt. The trade was believed to be a part of a programmed contractual purchase from Repsol to Mexico-based INSA, per market feedback. INSA was not available to comment on the purchase but did previously confirm a 4,000-mt cargo aboard the Tanja Kosan from Spain, according to a source with knowledge of company operations said. Mexico-based INSA has actively been importing material from Brazil and Spain throughout the second quarter with a company source saying it is part of a long term contract with Spain’s Repsol. In Brazil, a cargo was loaded with 3,000-mt cargo aboard the Forte de Sao Luiz at the port of Salvador, according to Platts cFlow ship-tracking software, but there was no indication that it would be sold to the international market as the olefin is often moved from port to port within the country.
