The Asian polypropylene market was weaker this week, tracking falls in feedstock propylene prices. Southeast Asia saw the steepest decline, with raffia grade falling $20/mt from a week ago to $1,355/mt CFR Wednesday. Raffia grade was also down $10/mt on week to $1,270/mt CFR Far East Asia, and fell $15/mt to $1,380/mt CFR South Asia. The spread between CFR SEA and CFR FEA PP raffia narrowed to $85/mt from $95/mt a week ago, but was still higher than a typical spread of $30-$40/mt. Market participants in Southeast Asia meanwhile, were holding back purchases as they expected a downward correction in the spread on expectations that Southeast Asia prices would track the fall in China. A wide gap between Chinese domestic and import prices was seen during the week.
