US spot refinery-grade propylene rose 1 cent/lb week on week to a Friday assessment of 29-29.5 cents/lb delivered following talks of increased demand for alkylate. Polymer-grade and chemical-grade propylene assessments fell 0.25 for the period to 36.5-37 cents/lb delivered and 33.5-34 cents/lb delivered, respectively. In contracts, propylene prices for June settled 2 cents lower, with PGP closing at 40 cents/lb and CGP at 38.5 cents/lb, sources said Friday. The settlement puts US propylene contracts at their lowest level since the June 2009 prices of 40 cents/lb and 38.5 cents/lb. The settlement is on the lower end of expectations as market participants called out for 1-to 2-cent drop, following talks of strong supply from the refinery and chemical production, peak demand from downstream polypropylene producers and spot prices for June hovering around 37.5 cents/lb level.
