European polystyrene was assessed unchanged on the week and on the month at Eur1,620/mt FD NWE, despite a rise in feedstock costs. Producers were reported to be nominating their June offers at Eur20-30/mt higher than May. “We are targeting a rise in our June PS contract prices by Eur40/mt but I understand the markets may accept a rise of Eur20/mt,” a producer said. However, converters were adamant they would not accept any increases and in fact would be pushing a decrease in the contract price. “I think that they will accept a rollover or even a decrease. There is more material available — maybe capacity, maybe stock,” a buyer said. “I just found out that there is no limit on the quantity that I can ask for. My experience is that with that we can get a good price.”
