US spot butadiene rose 1.50 cents on the week, assessed at 40.50 cents/lb CIF USG Friday as supply continued to be heard tighter and buying interest was improved, sources said. The assessment was past the 40 cents level for the first time since January 9 when it was at 41 cents/ lb CIF USG, according to Platts data. US supply had become tighter after as much as 7,000 mt of butadiene was loaded in early May to be exported to Asia, sources said. The export arbitrage was now closed, but with the product that was shipped, there was little spot product available, sources said. The extent the market was tight on supply was mixed, with several sources saying there was no product available for May, while other sources said they thought there was some product and the market was not short.
