Asian ethylene dichloride prices fell $10-$13/mt this week in thin activity amid high feedstock ethylene prices and a sluggish downstream PVC market. The CFR Far East Asia EDC marker fell $10/mt week on week to be assessed at $372/mt Thursday, while the CFR Southeast Asia marker fell $13/mt to $372/mt. Feedstock ethylene rose $25/mt over the same period to $1,410/mt on both a CFR Northeast Asia and CFR Southeast Asia basis. Despite firm feedstock prices, EDC sellers were unable to sustain prices for deepsea cargoes as demand took a hit from weakening PVC prices, one trader said. US Gulf cargoes for end July arrival were heard being offered by traders at $360-$370/mt CFR this week, against buying ideas below $360/mt CFR, with no deals heard. Buyers in Far East Asia were not keen to buy July EDC spot cargoes amid expectations of a further downtrend in PVC prices, one source said.
