Export pricing recovered $33/mt week on week, assessed Wednesday at $1,389-$1,411/mt (63-64 cents/lb) FAS Houston for homopolymer injection grade and at $1,433-$1,455/mt FAS Houston for co-polymer, following talks of producers holding out for higher contract and spot prices despite weak feedstocks. Sources pegged rail car trading levels from producers around 61 cents/lb for homopolymer product and 63 cents/lb for co-polymer, adding that availability of product was non-existent. Sources said the current tight supply and strong domestic demand will lead to a 2-4 cent/lb margin increase by producers in June, but the hike was not yet finalized. In contracts, Total Petrochemicals plans to increase polypropylene prices 5 cents/lb ($110/mt) in addition to any change in feedstock polymer-grade propylene pricing for all shipments on or after July 15, the company said in a letter to its customers obtained by Platts on Tuesday.
