Lack of clarity on feedstock costs in August and September mean that the negotiations over the contractual prices for polyethylene terephthalate in Europe have stalled, according to sources. Contract prices were assessed at Eur1,090/mt FD NWE and GBP890/mt FD UK Wednesday, unchanged on the week. Meanwhile, the pressure from new European capacities intensified, with spot prices slipping further down. On the Continent the spot price was assessed at Eur1,055/mt FD NWE, down by Eur10/mt, and in the UK at Eur870/mt FD UK, down by GBP8/mt. Delayed settlements of the PET feedstocks contracts perplexed many participants, who could not finalize their August business, nor properly plan September.
