Asian styrene monomer rebounded $22.50/mt and $24.50/ mt week on week to $1,587/mt FOB Korea and $1,614/ mt CFR China, respectively, Friday, following sharp falls the week before. The day-on-day increase was $8/mt for both markers, with international and domestic prices seen firming. Sources said traders were covering short positions, but end-users were completely out of the CFR China market as they were sitting on high inventory levels amid relatively low operating rates. SM inventory held by traders in East China rose from about 150,000 mt last week to more than 160,000 mt this week, while the total inventory held by both traders and end-users rose to almost 300,000 mt, market sources said.
