US domestic demand for polypropylene has yet to show signs of an uptick after a weak first quarter, market sources said Wednesday. “We thought things would improve in late March, but demand remains slow,” a source with a major polymer distributor said. “Everyone seems to have stocked up in December, maybe a little in January, and they have been away from the market since.” Expectations of a decrease in April contract prices of 1-2 cents/lb ($22-$44/mt) could jumpstart sales, but it could also be leading buyers to remain on standby mode hoping for further decreases, sources said.
