Northwest European styrene monomer spot prices edged up $0.50/mt Friday, to week-on-week decreases of $17/mt, closing at an assessment of $1,570.50/mt FOB ARA. Price movements largely fluctuated within the $1,560-1,580/mt FOB ARA band throughout the week amid thin trade and as regional supplies continued to outpace consumption. The oversupply situation persisted, despite a seasonal pick-up in demand downstream across the polystyrene, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene, expandable polystyrene and polyurethanes sectors, and was attributed to higher-thannormal structural imports from the US in March.
